Appetite Suppression
According to Dexatrim Max, green tea, oolong tea and caffeine are combined in this product to suppress the appetite. The more satisfied a person feels, the less likely he is to overeat or make poor food choices while trying to lose weight. Mayo Clinic points out that green tea and oolong tea are derivatives of the same plant. AmericanFamilyPhysician.org suggests that green tea was shown to have an impact on weight loss, but the results were inadvertent. Meaning, the study using green tea was not a weight loss study and the controls were not set to ensure that green tea was the direct cause.
Metabolism and Fat Burning
According to Dexatrim Max, adding chromium to the diet supplement will boost the user's metabolism and burn more fat. Mayo Clinic points out that chromium is relatively safe but it is unlikely that it will reduce body fat and build muscle. AmericanFamilyPhysician.org also concludes that the quantity of chromium found in diet supplements may not be in high enough quantity to produce the desired effects. The safety of consuming the quantity of chromium necessary to burn fat or boost metabolism has yet to be established, per AmericanFamilyPhysician.org. Green tea and oolong tea are also said to have this effect. Mayo Clinic points out that several small studies have shown some evidence to support the claims that green tea can help with weight loss but more research needs to be done to make this suggestion a strong fact.
Energy Boost
Ginseng and caffeine are two products with evidence of energy-boosting capabilities. Besides the added caffeine in the supplement, both oolong and green teas contain natural caffeine. Caffeine products may make it easier for an individual on a restricted-calorie diet to maintain the energy to get through the day and exercise as part of their weight loss plan. There can also be negative side effects of too much caffeine. These include, shaking, jitters, irritability and inability to sleep, as suggested by Mayo Clinic.
