Maine is a prime location for attending a ski racing camp. Maine has a variety of ski resorts and ski racing camps that are in full gear by Christmas break. Ski racing camps are designed for a wide range of skiers from beginners to advanced performers. Ski racing camps are operated by private boards, sport centers and resort associations throughout Maine.
Types
Some resorts in Maine provide specific ski racing camps for youngsters and youths to age 18. During the Christmas school break, Maine ski resorts offer children's ski racing camps. Ski racers can sharpen their skills and gain valuable tips from accomplished skiers. In addition, Maine has a state-of-the-art ski sport center for training prospective ski racing athletes.
Ski Center
The Maine Winter Sports Center in Caribou, Maine, features a Junior Racing Program for students in the sixth grade and higher. The program includes training with high-caliber racing instructors twice a week, a Thanksgiving and Christmas break ski camp, three regional ski trips and attendance at various ski events during the snow season. The cost of the program is $300 as of September 2010. Students and parents are required to attend an informational and qualification meeting prior to acceptance in the program.
Bethel, Maine
Sunday River Resort is about 65 miles north of Portland, Maine. Sunday River features an active ski racing program for youths. The Gould Academy Competition program is held at the resort's Kailey Competition Center and is designed for athletes age 7 and older. The academy offers training camps beginning in November through the last week of March. The program includes training camps in alpine skiing that include downhill, slalom, giant slalom and super G training. The resort has programs in freestyle and snowboarding competition. The cost of the various training camps is about $1,400 as of September 2010.
Bridgton, Maine
Shawnee Peak in Bridgton, Maine, features a variety of ski racing camps for youths ages 8 to 18 and a program for youngsters ages 6 to 8. The Shawnee Peak Racing Team Board oversees the training camps, which run from November 28 to March 21, depending on snow conditions. The program includes rigorous Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon sessions with expanded training during the holidays. During January, the training includes a one-week intensive ski tutorial. Participants are required to purchase a season ski pass and pay membership fees.
Carrabassett, Maine
According to Ski Magazine, Carrabassett is a world-class ski resort. The resort features the SCVA ski racing program for youths ages 8 to 18. The SCVA offers extensive training camps for alpine ski racing, freestyle ski racing and snowboarding racing. The training camps are held at the Competition Center during the snow season. The cost ranges from $1,300 to $1,450 as of September 2010. SCVA has a Nordic ski racing training camp for youths that runs $550 to $750 and offers support for the Nordic Eastern Cup Race for a fee.
