How to Get Foot Pain Relief

Those who spend hours on their feet already know how difficult it can be when feet begin to ache. Your feet are perhaps the most overworked part of the body. They are tasked with the job of helping us to get from one point to the other. Foot pain can come in many different forms for many different reasons. Relief is important so that you can resume life and business as usual.

Step 1

Rest your feet at any opportunity you get. It helps to elevate your feet when you are not on them to help eliminate swelling. Elevating your feet just six inches above your heart for at least 15 minutes can make a big difference. Alternate heat and ice every 15 minutes to reduce swelling.

Step 2

Treat dry skin that may be causing pain by rubbing it gently with a pumice stone to remove excess dead skin. Soak your feet in warm water with a cup of Epsom salt for at least 15 minutes and lather them with lotion before putting on soft cotton socks.

Step 3

Wear shoes that fit more loosely. Tight-fitting shoes can lead to calluses.

Step 4

Place gel inserts in your shoes to help alleviate discomfort. These inserts can help arches, toes and heels and can provide relief in different ways.

Step 5

Walk barefoot around the house as much as possible to give your feet a break from the confines of shoes and socks. This will allow the skin to breath and afford your feet the opportunity to move without confinement.

Tips and Warnings

  • If foot pain persists and nothing helps, talk to your doctor about ideas and options specifically tailored to fit your needs.
