Signs of Lowered Libido
Most people have a strong desire for intimacy and sexual relations. As the years go by, the sex drive starts to wane, and it is quite common for people to have less interest in sex than they did when they were younger. However, less interest and no interest are two different things. Individuals with a significantly lowered libido may need to consult with a physician in order to get their sex life back on track.
Loss of Sexual Desire
Sex is normally a topic that will be on a person's mind many times throughout a normal day. Those thoughts are often the precursor for sexual desire. But an individual with a loss of libido won't think about how much he wants to have sex any longer. The thought of sex will cross his mind, but the desire to pursue a sexual opportunity will be infrequent or nonexistent.
Reluctance to Initiate Sex
An individual with a low libido may not want to initiate sex. That may have been something the individual had done in the past, but it no longer seems feasible. The desire for sex has waned, so the individual with a low libido has no desire to initiate something that she does not want.
Depression
An individual with a lowered libido level may feel quite depressed. Not depressed over their lack of sexual interest, just depressed about the state of their life. Depression is often a sign of losing one's interest in having an active sex life.
Reluctance to Masturbate
Many individuals who are not sexually active with a partner will masturbate to at least attempt to satisfy their sexual needs. An individual with low libido will masturbate less frequently than he had in the past. Instead of engaging a partner or masturbating, the individual with lowered libido simply has little interest in the act.
