Haagen-Dazs is a popular choice among ice cream lovers. As with any ice cream, however, there are nutritional aspects that are less than favorable. Because Haagen-Dazs makes a variety of ice cream and frozen dessert products, you can compare its offerings and choose the best product to meet your nutritional needs.

Ice Cream

Haagen-Dazs ice cream is available in many flavors, each of which have a specific nutrition profile. Generally, each 1/2-cup serving of ice cream contains 250 to 300 calories, 15 to 20g fat, 20 to 30g carbohydrate and 5g protein, according to Haagen-Dazs' website. For example, the vanilla flavor contains 270 calories, 18g fat, 21g carbohydrate and 5g protein. A large portion of the fat content comes from saturated fat, 11g in the case of vanilla, while the majority of the carbohydrate content comes from sugar.

Five Ice Cream

Haagen-Dazs also makes a line of ice cream containing only five ingredients per flavor, called Haagen-Dazs Five. In addition to having fewer ingredients, the Five line of ice cream also tends to have fewer calories and less fat. For example, the Haagen-Dazs Five strawberry flavor contains 50 fewer calories, 5g fewer of fat and 4g fewer of saturated fat. The Haagen-Dazs Five line of ice cream is a better option for heart health, since diets high in saturated fat are linked to heart disease, according to Medline Plus.

Sorbet

To further minimize saturated fat intake, choosing a Haagen-Dazs sorbet is an even better choice, as it contains 0g saturated fat per serving. However, the sorbets are generally higher in sugar than the ice creams. For example, a strawberry sorbet contains 28g sugar, while original strawberry ice cream contains 22g. Despite this, the sorbets are lower in overall calories, ranging from 100 to 150 calories per 1/2-cup serving.

Frozen Yogurt

Haagen-Dazs' frozen yogurt may provide other nutritional advantages. In addition to also being lower in fat and saturated fat than ice cream, the frozen yogurt is a better source of calcium and contains beneficial yogurt cultures. The regular ice cream flavors provide 10 to 15 percent of the daily value of calcium, while the frozen yogurts provide up to 25 percent.

Bars

Haagen-Dazs also offers a line of ice cream bars in both standard and snack sizes. The standard sizes have about the same amount of calories per bar as a serving of ice cream, while the snack sizes have only 190 calories per bar. Like Haagen-Dazs' ice cream, the ice cream bars are high in fat and saturated fat. One standard size vanilla and almond bar contains 22g fat and 13g saturated fat.
