According to Medline Plus, the average person needs to consume 50 to 65g of protein per day. Whey protein powder can be a convenient and nutritious supplement to a person's protein intake from whole foods, such as meat, poultry, fish and dairy products. Athletes, in particular, sometimes require a greater amount of dietary protein. According to the University of Illinois, whey protein powder is easily added to drinks like smoothies and soft foods like yogurt and pudding.
Step 1
Put the yogurt into a bowl. Plain yogurt usually has fewer carbohydrates than fruit varieties, which often contain added sugar. Use whichever kind of yogurt you prefer, however.
Step 2
Add 1 tbsp. whey protein powder to the bowl of yogurt. Whey protein powders are relatively easy to find in grocery stores, health-food stores and pharmacies and come in a variety of flavors. Use an unflavored variety of whey protein if you plan on mixing it with other flavored foods.
Step 3
Mix the yogurt and whey protein together, using a spoon. If you find that these proportions result in a mixture that is too thick, add yogurt to thin the consistency.
Tips and Warnings
- Whey protein powder can also be added to drinks and is especially tasty when added to smoothies. Mixing milk or juice, fruit, ice and whey protein in a blender are a popular method of making protein shakes. While whey protein can be stirred into liquid beverages, doing so may not result in the most palatable texture. It is usually better to mix whey protein in a blender or in a shaker jar designed for this purpose.
- Whey protein is derived from milk. It is important to speak to your doctor before consuming whey protein if you have an allergy or other sensitivity to milk, or milk products.
