Florida City, Florida, known as the gateway to the Everglades and the Florida Keys, is in close proximately to several campgrounds that allow visitors to explore these popular areas. Two national parks provide camping accommodations, allowing visitors to experience the nature and beauty of the Everglades or the Biscayne Bay coastline.

There are several campgrounds located within a short distance of Florida City, Florida, within the two nearby national parks. The parks offer a variety of camping options for both tent and RV campers. Some campgrounds have limited access and provide a more rustic camping experience, and others offer modern amenities.

Biscayne National Park Campgrounds

Two campgrounds are located within Biscayne National Park. The campgrounds are for tent camping only. Both are located on islands and are only accessible by boat. The campground on Boca Chita Key has grassy campsites with picnic tables, grills and toilets. The Elliott Key campground has both waterside and wooded campsites with picnic tables, grills, toilets and shower facilities.

Biscayne Camping Activities

Two hiking trails are located on Elliott Key: a shorter 1-mile trail around the harbor and a 7-mile trail running the distance of the island. Canoeing and kayaking are popular activities for campers. Boats can launch from the Dante Fascell Visitor Center. Boat rentals also are available.

Everglades National Park Campgrounds

Everglades National Park offers "front-country" or "backcountry" camping options. Front-country camping, offering drive-in spots at designated camping areas, is available at the Pine Island and Flamingo campgrounds. These campgrounds accommodate RVs or tents and provide showers, picnic tables and grills. No hookups are available. Backcountry campsites, offering more rustic wilderness experiences, are found throughout the park. A few backcountry sites are accessible to hikers; the remaining can be reached by canoe, kayak or motorboat.

Everglades Activities

Hiking trails are located throughout the park, including several at the Flamingo campground. Opportunities for pond fishing, saltwater fishing, biking, canoeing and kayaking also are available. A number of ranger-led activities are offered at various times and locations and narrated boat and tram tours also are available.
