Deodorants and antiperspirants can cause irritation and dermatitis in people who are allergic to certain chemicals. Many deodorants contain parabens, aluminum, triclosan, talc and propylene glycol. The jury is still out as to whether these chemicals contribute to the development of breast and other cancers. If you are looking for a natural way to freshen up without introducing chemicals to your body, pick a deodorant that is all-natural.

Step 1

Pick a deodorant made from natural crystals. Crystal deodorants contain natural minerals that kill bacteria and reduce odors. Crystal deodorants come in stick and roll-on form.

Step 2

Choose a deodorant made from botanicals. All-natural deodorants are on the market that contain a vegetable oil and glycerin base. Organic plant materials, such as lemongrass and hops, reduce body odor when added to the oil and glycerin base.

Step 3

Try a deodorant made with tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic that prevents bacterial growth while it wards off odors.

Tips and Warnings

  • An all-natural way to deodorize your underarms is to use rubbing alcohol. Simply saturate a cotton ball with isopropyl alcohol and rub it on your underarms as needed. Apply baking soda to your underarms using a powder puff. Baking soda is a natural product that also kills bacteria and controls odors. Grocery stores, pharmacies, nature stores and online merchants sell natural deodorants.
  • Just because a product claims that it is natural does not mean that it is. Read the label and familiarize yourself with the ingredients. If you do not recognize a particular ingredient, ask a pharmacist for help. Not all crystal deodorants are aluminum-free, so check the label.
