Exhaustion can almost seem commonplace with all the demands of modern society. If you are experiencing exhaustion, anxiety or stress, you may need to make some lifestyle changes. Laura Stack writes in her book "The Exhaustion Cure: Up Your Energy from Low to Go in 21 Days," that more sleep is the no. 1 thing needed to overcome exhaustion. She suggests sleeping an extra 60 to 90 minutes each night if you are feeling more tired than usual. Sleep deprivation can cause health problems, stress in relationships and decreased memory or cognitive awareness. If you are concerned about your health in relation to your exhaustion, talk to your doctor.
Step 1
Take a quality, whole-food vitamin each day. Nutritional deficiency can contribute to exhaustion. Eat balanced and healthy meals to help sustain your energy as well, such as lean proteins, vegetables and whole grains.
Step 2
Plan your day out so that you have time to relax a little each day. Use your daily planner so that you do not over schedule yourself or spend your free moments on the computer or cell phone. Take a little quiet time each day to walk, meditate, read or do yoga.
Step 3
Purchase a stress relief tea and drink it up to three times a day, especially before bed time. Try taking adaptogen herbs, which help your body cope with stress and may relieve anxiety. Kava, ginseng and tulsi are examples of adaptogens.
Step 4
Consume plenty of water and avoid drinking alcohol.
Step 5
Get plenty of sleep each night. Make sure your body has time to recover and replenish itself with undisturbed sleep.
Tips and Warnings
- You can also carry a tincture blend of stress relieving herbs with you all day and take it as much as indicated on the bottle. Stack also writes that getting a little exercise each day along with avoiding bad eating habits will also contribute to your body's vitality. Working too much can create a life of stress, so make steps to balance life, play and rest.
- Sometimes exhaustion may actually be heat exhaustion, according to FamilyDoctor.org. If you are experiencing skin that feels hot and dry, but not sweaty, confusion, vomiting, or shortness of breath, contact your doctor right away. If any symptoms persist that seem unusual and cause you concern, seek medical attention.
