Many over the counter, or OTC, diet pill manufacturers promise quick weight loss if you use their products. However, there is currently only one OTC diet pill that has been evaluated and approved by the FDA for being an effective measure for weight loss. The rest have not been evaluated by the FDA, but this doesn't necessarily mean that they're not effective. There are still plenty of OTC diet pills that can help you achieve your weight loss goals.
Alli
As of 2010, Alli is the only FDA approved OTC diet pill on the market. Orlistat is a highly studied weight loss medicine, and is the active ingredient in Alli. The manufacturer website claims that it works with your digestive system and is not a stimulant, so it shouldn't affect your nervous system like many other OTC diet pills. Alli can be purchased at most health retailers for about $50.
Zantrex-3
Zantrex-3 is marketed largely on its claims for boosting energy. It contains 300mg of caffeine, which is the equivalent of three to four cups of coffee. The manufacturer website claims that Zantrex-3 can produce 546 percent more weight loss than banned ephedra products. Ingredients include caffeine, yerba mate, guarana, damiana, green tea, kola nut, schizonepeta, piper nigrum, tibetan ginseng, panax ginseng, maca root, cocoa nut, and black tea. You can purchase this product at most health retailers for around $18.
Leptopril
Leptopril, formerly known as leptotrin, is an OTC diet pill for people who are 20lbs or more overweight. The manufacturer claims that Leptopril can reduce blood sugar levels after eating, and burn fat while giving you a boost in energy. Much like Zantrex-3, Leptopril contains a substantial amount of caffeine. However, the amount is not given by the manufacturer. Other ingredients include guarana, yerba mate, green tea, ma huang, kola nut, and kelp. This product can be purchased at most health retailers for around $30.
