Thermage is a nonsurgical procedure performed by a doctor that uses radio frequency technology to tighten skin. The theory behind the application is that heating deep layers of skin will stimulate collagen growth and firm up the existing tissue. Collagen is a protein produced naturally by the body to create a network of fibers that keep skin tight. As you age, collagen production slows, and skin starts to sag. Thermage is not a product for home use. The application is only available through a certified doctor who offers the service.
Step 1
Consult a plastic surgeon in your area who offers Thermage treatments. During your appointment, discuss the options available to you for neck tightening. According to the Thermage website, neck treatments may require a number of procedures and can work best in combination with liposuction and other minor surgeries.
Step 2
Set up an appointment with doctor for the procedure. Thermage states that neck procedures take two to three hours. Plan on taking at least one day off from work for the procedure to give you time to rest afterward. Ask your doctor if you need to take any specific precautions before the treatment. According to Thermage, there are no prerequisites for the treatment. However, if you have other procedures done, you may have to prepare for them.
Step 3
Wear sunscreen and develop a skin care regimen after the treatment. Proper care of your skin is essential to maintain a healthy appearance. Wash your face at least once a day with a mild cleanser and moisturize. New skin forming after the Thermage procedure will need protection from UV damage. Apply a sun block to your neck with a SPF value of at least 15 whenever you go outdoors.
