As you age, it's normal for the skin on your face to loosen. You don't produce as much elastin or collagen as you get older, meaning the skin doesn't have as much elasticity and will start to droop. As natural as this process is, you still might want to tighten loose facial skin for a more youthful appearance, and there are things you can do to get the results you want.
Step 1
Perform facial exercises. According to Fitness Health Zone, you can tighten the area around your eyes by pressing down on your eyebrows with your fingers while trying to look surprised. You can also get rid of sagging cheeks by pressing three fingers down on each of your cheeks while trying to smile as hard as you can. These exercises tone the facial muscles, which will lift loose skin.
Step 2
Use over-the-counter creams to give your loose facial skin a lift. Look for a cream that contains retinol or kinetin to boost collagen and elastin production, which can help to tighten loose skin and restore some of its elasticity. Creams cannot provide results for extremely loose skin.
Step 3
Undergo a laser lift procedure in your dermatologist's office. A laser will be used to resurface your facial skin, which can help to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles and tighten some of your looser skin. While it won't eliminate sagging skin, it will help to make it less noticeable by improving the skin's texture, says the American Academy of Dermatology.
Step 4
Undergo surgery to have the loose skin on your face removed and tightened. Also known as a face lift, this procedure involves the lifting of the skin so it sits higher on the face. It may also involve the removal of excess skin, especially along the jaw line and by the ears.
