The normal aging process involves a reduction of collagen and elastin production in the skin. This causes the skin to wrinkle, droop and sag. Although this is a totally normal process, it can still make you want to undergo a procedure to improve skin texture and give it some lift. Not every case of loose skin on the face requires surgery to fix.
Step 1
Apply a cream to your skin keep it hydrated and to introduce collagen, which can tighten loose skin. A cream that contains retinol can help to boost collagen and elastin in the skin and improve its texture. Over time, this can make the skin look tighter and younger.
Step 2
Work out the muscles in your face to tighten the skin. Tone and tighten the skin around the eyes by relaxing your face, and with your eyes closed, look up as far as you can and look down as far as you can, holding your eyes in each position for several seconds. Tighten your neck and chin by looking up at the ceiling and forming a kissing face for several seconds. You can repeat these exercises in repetitions of 10 as many times a day as you want to build muscle and pull the skin taut on your face.
Step 3
Consult with a plastic surgeon about your options for tightening your facial skin. While a non-invasive procedure like laser resurfacing might work to improve the texture of your skin, it won't get rid of sagging skin or looseness. Only a face lift can remedy that. During this procedure, you will be under anesthesia and your skin will be pulled tighter on the face. In some cases, excess skin will be cut away under the chin or in front of the ears. Recovery takes several weeks and can be painful.
