Diseases can be chronic or acute, they can start at a young age or they can develop over the course of time. Infectious diseases are caused from a bacteria or virus and they can be spread from person to person. Noncommunicable diseases are caused from genetics or environmental factors and they cannot be contracted.
Melanoma
Melanin is a substance in the skin that gives it color. Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that takes place in this part of the skin. Multiple factors can lead to this life-threatening disease such as family history, being fair skinned, not wearing sun block, having numerous moles on the skin and being exposed to carcinogens on a regular basis.
Meniere's Disease
Meniere's disease was first discovered in 1861 by Prosper Ménière, a French physician. Vertigo is one of the main symptoms of this disease. This causes the individual to become so dizzy that he has to lie down to stop it. Hearing loss, ringing in the ears, pain in the ears and ear pressure can also be seen with this condition.
Meningitis
Meningitis comes in the form of viral and bacterial. It is a disease that causes the membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord to become inflamed. Bacterial meningitis is contagious and it can cause symptoms like headache, high fever, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, sleepiness and confusion. If left untreated, meningitis can lead to learning disabilities, hearing loss and brain damage.
Measles
Measles is a very contagious disease that mostly takes place in children. Symptoms of this condition include a red blotchy skin patch, sore throat, fever, cough and a runny nose. According to the Mayo Clinic, this disease was nearly eliminated by the year 2000, but it has since seen a resurgence due to parents being reluctant to vaccinate their children.
Macular Degeneration
The macula is the center part of the retina in the eyeball. Macular degeneration is a disease where the macula gets deteriorated and vision becomes impaired. This condition does not cause complete blindness. It causes vision to become blurry and the individual can also see a blind spot when she is looking forward.
Malaria
Malaria is a highly infectious disease that virtually doesn't exist in countries where there are extremes in climates. But in countries that have subtropical and tropical climates, it is very prevalent. Malaria is caused by mosquitoes transporting a parasite from one victim to another. High fever, chills, profuse sweating, diarrhea, vomiting and headaches are all symptoms of this disease. If left untreated, malaria can cause liver and kidney failure, and it can even be fatal.
