When the acid-alkaline levels are out of balance within your body, a high level of acidic fluids can be produced and unwanted health conditions may occur. According to EveryDiet.org, implementing an alkaline diet can restore a healthy balance. The body will first begin to detox its acidic environment, then an alkaline effect will take place and the body can begin to heal itself. Alkaline foods need to comprise 75 to 80 percent of your diet in order for this to take place. Testing your pH balance is an integral part of this process, so please see your doctor if for any concerns or questions.

Step 1

Drink a glass of fresh vegetable juice in the morning. Make a breakfast of sliced grapefruit, toasted spelt bagel and some almonds. Do not use cream cheese on your bagel, as cheese causes acidity, but instead opt for hummus spread if needed.

Step 2

Drink plenty amounts of water through out the day, and avoid drinks such as alcohol, coffee and soda.

Step 3

Make a barley vegetable soup for lunch. Use vegetables like broccoli or cauliflower and vegetable broth as the base. In his book, "Naturally There's Always Hope," Neil McKinney writes that an increase in fruits and vegetables is necessary, as well as a reduction in carbohydrates. Eggs, honey, peanuts, cashews and soy sauce should also be avoided.

Step 4

Cook some lentils in olive oil and garlic for dinner. Accompany this with cooked whole grains, such as brown rice. Make a salad that includes fresh, sliced avocados and lettuce. Sprinkle fresh lemon juice and sesame seeds on top, along with any non-dairy salad dressing you would like. McKinney writes that in order for the body to alkalize, you need to avoid excess protein intake, especially red meat.

Tips and Warnings

  • Reducing the amount of stress in your life is also important. Make your meals at home using fresh ingredients as much as possible, which means also avoiding fast foods, microwavable foods and canned foods.
  • Symptoms of too much acidity include headaches, clammy hands, neck and shoulder pain, skin rashes and nasal mucus. Check with your doctor to know exactly what is going on with your body, as well as come up with a plan to help support your health.
