Overview

A man may wonder how to last longer in bed, delaying his orgasm to prolong his own pleasure, prolong his partner's pleasure or enable her to reach orgasm. There's no one perfect solution; the key to lasting longer usually amounts to being willing to practice and experiment. If you can find what it takes to bring you to climax quickly, you can also discover types of stimulation that are very pleasurable but don't provoke an orgasm as quickly. There are several techniques to help hold the climax off until you're ready for it.

Step 1

Discuss what you're trying to do openly with your partner. Having her cooperation will make finding what works for you both much easier. You may even discover that she does not need to orgasm every time you have sex to feel fulfilled.

Step 2

Vary your sexual positions. Some positions, such as woman on top or side-by-side, may help you last longer since they require less muscle tension. Experiment and find which work best for you and your partner.

Step 3

Try stopping intercourse just before the point of orgasm--either hold still or withdraw--then wait until the urge to climax has subsided before you continue. This is called the start-stop technique and can be practiced during masturbation, too. It can be repeated as many times as you like until you've lasted as long as you want.

Step 4

Practice a variant on the start-stop technique by applying gentle squeezing pressure right below the head of the penis until the urge to orgasm has diminished.

Tips and Warnings

  • Learning to last longer in bed is a natural process and how long you last is not the only way of measuring your partner's pleasure.
