Dry patches and layers of dead cells can make your skin feel tight and itchy. According to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, the exfoliation process helps to remove dead layers of skin cells, while also promoting the production of new ones. Solid sugar scrubs made from granulated sugar remove dead skin cells in the shower or bath, when rubbed against wet skin. Make your own single-use solid sugar scrubs using candy molds.
Step 1
Pour 1/3 cup of granulated white sugar into a medium sized bowl. Stir in ½ tsp. olive oil using a wooden spoon.
Step 2
Continue stirring until the granulated sugar and the almond oil combine. Add 10 to 12 drops of your favorite essential oil to the sugar and almond oil mixture.
Step 3
Stir once more to combine all of the ingredients. Scoop-out the sugar scrub mixture and press it into the depressions of a silicone candy mold.
Step 4
Allow the sugar scrub to dry in the mold for 48 hours to harden. Pop the solid sugar scrubs from the mold after the 48-hour waiting period.
Step 5
Display the solid sugar scrubs in a decorative basket for future use. Stack the solid sugar scrubs in a small cardboard box if you do not have a decorative basket.
Tips and Warnings
- Substitute almond, coconut or vegetable oil if you do not have olive oil available. Experiment with different fragrances of essential oil. You can also add a few drops of food coloring to change the color of the solid sugar scrubs.
- Do not allow the solid sugar scrubs to become wet before use. Doing so will cause them to dissolve before you get a chance to use them.
