Lemon Juice Remedies
Lemons are used to garnish meals, make tangy drinks, and add zing to our foods. Lemons often get overlooked for their healing abilities. A swig of lemon juice can stop the hiccups; a dab of juice can remove age spots or a sip act as a tonic for the liver. Because of their high vitamin content, lemons can give us energy or calm us down. Lemon juice is used for a variety of remedies, and it is always a good idea to have a lemon or some lemon juice handy. You never know when you may need this helpful fruit.
Acne
Lemon juice is a popular home remedy to help with acne. There are several ways lemon juice can help with this skin condition. Juice one lemon, add equal portions of rose water and apply it to the face for half an hour, then rinse. It can really help reduce the blemishes after about 15 days. Massaging the face with lemon juice is another way to fight acne. Also, adding salt to lemon juice, applying to the face for 10 minutes and rinsing can assist with treating acne naturally.
Cough and Sore Throat
Irritations of the throat can be painful and disrupting. A sore, irritated throat can induce coughing and make it difficult to swallow. Adding a quarter cup of lemon juice to 2 tablespoons of honey is a soothing way to coat the throat, tame a cough, and cut mucus. If you add a little mint tea to this mixture it can also open sinus passages.
Constipation
Constipation is the inability to move your bowels, and this can often be uncomfortable. Lemon juice and honey can help with constipation and aid in maintaining proper bowel function. By adding 1 teaspoon of honey with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice in a warm glass of water and ingesting once in the morning and once in the evening, regularity should be restored.
Kidney Stones
Lemon juice works very well in dissolving kidney stones because the acid in the lemon can help break apart the stones, making them easier to pass. One way lemon can help is to add 2 ounces of lemon juice to 2 ounces of olive oil and drink this mixture every three to four hours to help the stone pass. Drinking plenty of water in between doses is helpful. Adding a few teaspoons of lemon juice to your water and drinking eight to 12 glasses of water daily can also help in dissolving the stone.
