Health Diseases & Conditions List

Health diseases and conditions can start in childhood, they can develop over the years or you can be born with them. Everyone in the world has had at least one type of disease or condition in their lives, and the conditions can range in severity.

Hypertension

High blood pressure is known medically as hypertension. This is a condition where your blood pressure is 140/90 or higher. Blood pressure is the force at which blood pumps through your arteries. When you are diagnosed with hypertension, your risk for heart attacks and strokes goes up. Risk factors for hypertension are family history, smoking, age and having a high sodium diet.

Athersclerosis

Cholesterol is a waxy substance that flows through the blood and is produced naturally in the liver. It is utilized by the body to produce hormones and form cells. When your levels of cholesterol become too high, you run the risk of developing atherosclerosis, which causes a fatty-like substance called plaque to build up on the inside of your arteries. Your blood flow becomes restricted, and you raise your risk of coronary, carotid and peripheral artery disease.

Lactose Intolerance

Lactose is sugar that is found in dairy products such as milk, cheese, ice cream and any other product that has milk in it. Lactose intolerance is a condition where your stomach is deficient in the enzyme lactase that is responsible for breaking down lactose. When you have this condition, you can suffer symptoms such as gas, nausea, diarrhea, bloating and stomach pain whenever you eat dairy products.

AIDS

The human immunodeficiency virus is directly responsible for the formation of AIDS. This disease is spread by sexual transmission, blood transfusions, mother to a child or from sharing needles. When you get this disease, your immunity system breaks down and you are unable to fight off bacteria and infections. Complications include pneumonia, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis, candidiasis and death.

Urinary Tract Infection

The urinary tract consists of the ureters, bladder, urethra and kidneys. When bacteria clings to the urethra, which is the opening in the urinary tract, a urinary tract infection can develop. This bacteria can spread through the kidneys, bladder and ureters causing painful urination and a tired, wiped-out feeling.

Alcoholism

Alcohol does not have much of an effect on the body when it is consumed in moderation. But when it is consumed in large amounts, it can not only cause damage to the body, but it can become an addiction. Alcoholism complications include liver disorders, gastritis, birth defects, bone loss and an increase in cancer risk.

Bursitis

Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs that act as cushions at your joints. When you constantly have excessive impact on your joints, the bursae can become inflamed and bursitis can develop. Pain, bruising, tenderness, swelling and stiffness are symptoms of this condition.
