When small, thin veins known as spider veins show up on your face, it can be quite upsetting. Spider veins usually show up as red or purple web-like or starburst patterns from the dilation of small sections of blood vessels near the surface of the skin, says Oregon Health and Science University. Spider veins can be caused by an injury, sun exposure, hormones, age, heredity or alcoholism, and are seen in both sexes, but mostly women. Sometimes, you can get rid of veins on your face with home remedies, but usually a trip to the doctor is required to get the job done.

Step 1

Massage your face to help to improve blood circulation, says Health Guidance. Use a face lotion or vitamin E oil and massage twice a day.

Step 2

Change your diet to reduce the amount of sodium you consume, suggests Health Guidance. Excess sodium can lead to swelling and aggravate spider veins. Stop adding salt to your foods and read food labels carefully.

Step 3

Limit your alcohol consumption if you are a regular drinker. Visible blood vessels are associated with alcoholism, and avoiding alcohol will stop adding to the problem.

Step 4

Schedule an appointment to have a sclerotherapy performed. The doctor will inject a solution directly into the veins, which causes them to harden and then collapse, says Oregon Health and Science University. Your healthy veins will absorb the blood from the spider veins.

Tips and Warnings

  • Ask your doctor about electrodessication, lasers or intense pulsed light treatment if sclerotherapy is not possible or doesn't appeal to you.

Things You'll Need

  • Face lotion
  • Vitamin E oil
