Gray hair is something most people have to adjust to at some point in their lives. Going gray is a natural process, caused by lowered production of the pigment melanin. Whether or not you get gray hair is a matter of heredity, but you can take actions to slow the process a little, or cover up the ones you already have.
Step 1
Place a ½ cup of chamomile in a pot with one quart of water, and boil for a half hour. Strain the leaves out of the water and let the water cool. Pour the water through your hair 15 times, catching it in a basin each time to reuse. Wring your hair out, and leave it in for 15 minutes before rinsing. Chamomile is more effective for blondes.
Step 2
Grab a handful of dried sage leaves and boil in one quart of water for 30 minutes. Leave it longer if you want a darker result. Pour the mixture through your hair 15 times, catching it in a basin each time. Wait for 10 minutes after the last pour, then rinse your hair. Apply the treatment weekly until you reach the shade you want, says Mother Earth News.
Step 3
Eat more foods that contain copper, which is a mineral that may help keep your melanin levels up. Choose oysters, crab, almonds, cashews and sunflower seeds to increase the amount of copper in your diet.
Step 4
Massage butter made from cow's milk into your scalp and hair roots two times per week to help reduce gray, advises WomenFitness.net.
Step 5
Boil a few curry leaves in coconut oil, then rub the mixture into your scalp and on your hair roots, says Fat Free Kitchen.
