California has many state and national parks to choose from for RVers, especially in the northern part of the state. There is a wide variety of activities to enjoy, such as swimming, fishing, boating and surfing. You can also take in the wildlife such as seals on a beach or view the amazing waterfalls in another park.

Northwestern Area

At Redwood National Park, you can start off the day hiking on hundreds of miles of trails ranging from 0.4 of a mile and up, and easy to difficult in footing. Trails range from deserted forest trails to coastal trails. Take your horse out on many different trails up to 32 miles in length. Experience kayaking on the Pacific Ocean. Ride your bike on one of six trails ranging from three to 19 miles.

You can stay overnight with your RV in one of four campsites. The Jedediah Smith Campground offers 86 campsites that can accommodate RVs up to 36 feet in length. The campground offers fishing, swimming, hot showers, dump stations, restrooms and fire pits. Mill Creek Campground has 145 campsites for your RV or tent that accommodate RVs up to 31 feet in length. The campground offers picnic tables, a grill and fire pits. Amenities include restrooms, showers and a dump station.

Elk Prairie Campground offers 75 sites with grills, picnic tables and fire pits. The campground can accommodate RVs up to 27 feet in length. Gold Bluffs Beach Campground has 26 RV or tent sites with picnic tables, grills and fire pits. Other amenities include wind shelters, 70 miles of trails and a dump station.

Northeastern Area

RV camping can be found in the northeastern section of Northern California at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park. You can go hiking or nature viewing on the five miles of hiking trails, and visit the 129-foot Burney Falls. You can also go boating and horseback riding. The park offers 128 campsites with some handicap-accessible sites. The maximum RV size is 32 feet. Amenities include showers, restrooms and a dump station. Reservations can be made by phone or online for this park.

Central Area

In the central part of Northern California, RV camping can be found at Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area. You can enjoy hiking or nature viewing on the trails or go swimming or fishing. You can choose from 162 campsites; handicap-accessible sites are available. Maximum length for RVs is 27 feet. Amenities include restrooms, showers and picnic areas. Reservations can be made online for this park.

Southwestern Area

Sonoma Coast State Park offers sandy beaches for swimming, and you can also go fishing or hiking. Surfing, horseback riding and seal watching can be enjoyed as well. There are 27 RV sites for you to pick from. Amenities include restrooms, dump station and picnic areas. Reservations for this park can be made online.

Southeastern Area

At Lake Oroville State Recreation Area, you can enjoy horseback riding, hiking or mountain biking on the parks trails. If you like the water activities, you can go sailing, power boating, water skiing, swimming or fishing. The park has 137 campsites to choose from. RV sites have a maximum length of 40 feet. Amenities included are beach wheelchairs, dump station and boat ramps. Reservations for this park can be made by phone or online.
