Since proteins are the building blocks for the entire body, a diet deficient in protein can have serious negative effects on the overall health and functioning of the body. The Harvard School of Public Health recommends that all adults consume at least 8g of protein for every 20 lbs of body weight per day. If your diet does not provide sufficient protein, consuming a chocolate protein bar can help you meet your daily requirements.

Myoplex Chocolate Chocolate Chip

The Myoplex bar offered by EAS offers 25g of protein in one 75g bar. The "chocolate chocolate chip" flavor contains 280 calories, 70 of which come from fat. Of the eight grams of fat contained in the protein bar, an astounding seven of those grams come from saturated fat. Along with 25g of protein, the bar also offers 260mg of potassium, 35g of carbohydrates and 14g of sugar. As an added benefit, one chocolate chocolate chip Myoplex bar provides between 20 and 50 percent of many major vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C, E, K, calcium, iron and the B vitamins. When comparing grams to calories, the Myoplex Chocolate Chocolate Chip bar offers 0.09g of protein per calorie.

P90X Peak Performance Chocolate Fudge

Offered by Beachbody, the P90X Peak Performance chocolate fudge protein bar provides 20g of protein in one 65g bar. Similar to the Myoplex bars, the P90X Peak Performance bars provide 260 calories, 70 of which come from fat. However, these protein bars only provide 4.5g from saturated fat. Unfortunately, the bars offer more sugar at 23g. Additionally, the P90X supplement bars offer very few vitamins and minerals. The P90X Peak Performance Chocolate Fudge Protein bar provides 0.08g of protein per calorie.

Tri-O-Plex Skinny Dipped German Chocolate

The slightly larger Tri-o-Plex protein bars offer more protein, but also more calories than the smaller bars. A 100g Skinny Dipped German Chocolate Tri-O-Plex Bar offers 30g of protein and 330 calories. With 130 calories coming from fat, the chocolate protein bars provide 14g of fat, 6g of which are saturated fat. Although the bars do provide less sugar, at just 19g, they also offer less healthy vitamins and minerals. In fact, the bars do not contain any vitamin A or C. The Tri-O-Plex Skinny Dipped German Chocolate bar also offers 0.09g of protein per calorie.

Regular Chocolate Bars

Although chocolate protein bars pack a large amount of calories, they do provide significantly more protein than a traditional chocolate bar. For example, a 58.7g Snickers bar provides just four grams of protein in 280 calories. A Snickers bar also packs 14g of fat and 30g of sugar. Similarly, a 43g Hershey's Milk Chocolate bar provides just three grams of protein in 210 calories. Although chocolate protein bars do contain a significant amount of calories, they are a much better option than traditional chocolate bars to reach your daily protein requirements. On average, a regular chocolate bar provides just 0.01g of protein per calorie.
