One common complaint by women after childbirth is their inability to get rid of excess skin or abdominal fat or "the pouch." Although prevention is the best method in these cases, it is not always possible to prevent the inevitable weight gain during pregnancy. Several things can be done both before and after the pregnancy to reduce these occurrences or make it easier to get rid of them without getting a tummy tuck.

Step 1

Consult a physician before starting any new exercise routines or before changing eating habits. Some women have challenging pregnancies or pre-existing health conditions which may be complicated by certain workout routines.

Step 2

Adopt an exercise routine during pregnancy, such as Pilates, yoga or walking, to help maintain a healthy weight during pregnancy. Epigee recommends starting off slowly and then building up gradually. Exercising may be more difficult on the body than usual at this time, due to the extra weight.

Step 3

Maintain healthy nutrition throughout the nine months. Although a woman's appetite will increase because of the pregnancy, eating foods that are healthy and low in fat can help with maintaining a healthy body fat percentage.

Step 4

Use creams or lotions that are formulated to prevent stretch marks or increase skin elasticity during pregnancy. Follow this after pregnancy by using lotions or creams that tighten and tone the skin. Apply this lotion to the stomach and extremities as directed.

Step 5

Adopt a postpartum exercise program. This exercise program should include a warm-up, cool down and at least 20 to 30 minutes of exercise at the maximum heart rate.

Step 6

Sign up to have a non-surgical fat removal procedure, such as lipomassage. Lipomassage is a treatment that minimizes cellulite by the use of rollers. The technician uses rollers to massage the areas of fat deposits to smooth the appearance.
