Cefprozil Drug Uses

Cefprozil is an antibiotic used to treat mild to moderately severe bacterial infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, respiratory tract and skin. Cefprozil belongs to a class of antibiotics known as cephalosporins. Cefprozil is available as tablets and suspension that are taken by mouth. The drug is usually taken once a day or every 2 hours for 10 days.

Strep Throat

Cefprozil is used to treat strep throat, which is a contagious bacterial infection caused by Streptococcus bacteria. Signs and symptoms of strep throat include fever, red and sore throat, tender and swollen lymph nodes, nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty swallowing, white patches on the throat and malaise.

Sinusitis

Sinusitis refers to inflammation of the sinuses that often accompanies a viral, bacterial or fungal infection. MedlinePlus lists signs and symptoms of sinusitis as sore throat, postnasal drip, headache, fever, fatigue, cough, bad breath, nasal congestion, facial pressure, toothache and nasal discharge.

Bronchitis

Bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchioles, which are the air passages to the lungs. Bronchitis occurs when bacteria infect the airways. Signs and symptoms of bronchitis include fever, wheezing, fatigue, cough, yellow-green sputum, shortness of breath and chest pain.
