Body acne can occur nearly anywhere on the body, but the back, chest, shoulders and buttocks are the most common areas. Several companies that make acne products for the face also sell body washes and scrubs meant specifically for treating and preventing body acne. These products effectively reduce blemishes without drying the skin or clogging pores.

Treating Body Acne

Body acne treatments involve many of the same practices used on facial acne. Acne.org suggests using gentle yet effective cleansers that treat acne and wash away cleanly. You should avoid using body washes branded as “ultra-moisturizing” or “for dry skin” since they can contain oils and creams that can clog pores. For acne body washes to work most effectively, you should use them consistently and immediately after excessive sweating or working out to remove pore-clogging dirt and sweat.

Neutrogena

Neutrogena sells four body washes that help clear and prevent future breakouts, and which contain two percent salicylic acid. Salicylic acid unclogs pores and eliminates blackhead and whitehead blemishes, according to MayoClinic.com. The Body Clear line comes in original wash, original scrub and pink grapefruit wash formulations. The Acne Stress Control formula has additional ingredients that reduce redness and calm irritated skin. You can purchase Neutrogena body washes through the company's website, and at various drugstores and discount online retailers.

pHisoderm

pHisoderm products work on the basis of restoring and balancing the natural pH of the skin. Its Anti-Blemish Body Wash exfoliates, reduces redness and treats blemishes with the help of salicylic acid. pHisoderm products have limited availability in stores, but you can purchase them through several discount websites.

Murad

Murad’s well-known Acne Complex line includes a body wash with salicylic acid. It also has small exfoliating beads that help slough off dead skin and other pore-clogging debris. You can purchase Murad products through the company’s website, and at Sephora and Ulta stores.

OXY

OXY has a Maximum Acne Solutions line that contains a body wash and body scrub with salicylic acid to treat acne and irritated skin. The products contain added moisturizers to prevent your skin from over-drying, which can cause more irritation. OXY products are available at drugstores and through online retailers.
