Unilever, a huge multinational company that makes everything from Axe body wash to Ben & Jerry's ice cream, also makes Sunsilk hair-care products. Sunsilk is available all over the world. Sunsilk offers a wide variety of hair-care solutions; its product lines are designed specifically for certain hair colors or types.

History

Unilever launched the first Sunsilk line in April 2006 and it was an immediate hit in the European market, according to the company. The line focused on products specifically for blondes, brunettes and red heads. Sunsilk has added products and expanded since 2006. By 2010, it was sold in 80 countries, including the United States.

Products

Sunsilk is marketed to women as color-enhancing shampoos, conditioners and styling products. The products are divided into lines for Lively Blondes, Deeply Brunettes and Passionately Reds. In addition, there is a line co-created with stylist Teddy Charles that focuses more on hair types than color and includes Hydra TLC, Captivating Curls, Daring Volume and Thermashine. There also is a Sunsilk Damage Reconstruction line co-created with Thomas Taw.

Popularity

According to its parent company, Sunsilk is the number one hair line in Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. The company says its total sales are more than 1 billion Euros a year. The products have received accolades from numerous women's magazines.

Websites & Events

Sunsilk maintains numerous websites that not only explain their products in detail but also give beauty advice on subjects other than hair. The Sunsilk corporate site is mostly about the Teddy Charles collection and includes a schedule of events for those products. The Sunsilk Gang of Girls website has expert advice from hair stylists as well as fashion reports and makeup tips. The Life Can't Wait website was set up for a 2008 contest but has remained available for visitors to read stories and tips from the 50 winners.

Interesting Facts

If you are looking for Sunsilk outside the United States, it might have a different name. In other countries, Sunsilk is called Elidor, Seda, Hazeline and Sedal. The company also holds the Guinness World Record for "The Most Heads of Hair Washed and Styled in One Day."
