Tears in the abdominal wall can be a setback in your weight loss goal but it does not mean you cannot lose your abdominal fat. According to the experts at the Mayo Clinic two and a half hours of exercise a week will help you lose your belly. It is best to do aerobic exercises that do not utilize your core muscles while your abdominal muscles heal.

Step 1

Lower your food intake. Because your abdominal muscles are injured you will likely be doing less physical activity. By limiting your calorie intake more fat from your belly will be broken down and used for energy.

Step 2

Take up light aerobic exercises. Walking and light jogging are aerobic exercises that can be used to burn calories and speed up your metabolism, leading to a flatter stomach.

Step 3

Avoid weightlifting, calisthenics and heavy lifting, skating and biking. These exercises place strain on your abdominal muscles and can aggravate the injury further. The sooner your injury heals the sooner you can get back to more intense physical exercise.
