Burger King's menu features a variety of foods, from traditional burgers and fries to salads, chicken sandwiches, desserts and breakfast items. The company's "Have It Your Way" campaign allows consumers to reduce caloric intake by avoiding high-calorie items like sesame seed buns, mayonnaise and creamy salad dressings. Although Burger King is famous for its flame-broiled hamburgers, it offers plenty of fried foods that pack on the calories.

Flame-Broiled Burgers

Burger King's Whopper contains 670 calories, the Double Whopper has 900 calories, and the Triple Whopper contains 1,130 calories. Removing the bun saves 340 calories, while skipping mayonnaise saves 160. Popular items such as cheese and bacon add 50 calories each. The Whopper has more than twice the calories of Burger King's traditional hamburger, more than half of which come from the sesame seed bun. The Burger King version of the double hamburger, the Double Stacker, has 560 calories, while the Steakhouse XT has 770. Forgoing the XT's corn-dusted bun shaves 240 calories.

Other Sandwiches

Burger King's nonburger sandwiches include the soy-based BK Veggie. It contains 400 calories. The breaded and fried BK Big Fish is only slightly richer at 460 calories, but tartar sauce lifts it above 600. Burger King's Tendercrisp Chicken Sandwich is the calorie champ among the chain's competing chicken sandwiches at 800 calories. Opting for the Tendergrill Chicken Sandwich saves more than 300 calories.

Side Orders

A medium side order of salted french fries has 440 calories. Health-conscious consumers ordering unsalted fries should add 40 calories. A medium order of onion rings contains roughly the same number of calories as the french fries at 450, but suggested dips like Zesty Sauce bring it to 600, and barbecue, 530. Funnel cake sticks, covered in powdered sugar with icing for dipping, have 300 calories.

Salads

Salads are the the lowest-calorie items on the menu. A basic side salad has only 140 calories, mostly from the croutons. Ken's Fat Free Ranch dressing adds 50 calories, while Ken's Honey Mustard nearly triples the calorie total to 400. Burger King offers two chicken salads: the Tendercrisp, at nearly 700 calories, and the Tendergrill, at less than 300. Ken's Creamy Caesar dressing adds 210 calories.

Breakfast

Burger King's breakfast selection features several low-calorie options and one diet buster. The Egg and Cheese Croissanwich has 300 calories. Adding the Honey Butter Sauce adds another 30. The Mini Blueberry Biscuits have 390 calories, which can be lowered if eaten without the icing dip. Both a small order of hash browns and the five-piece French Toast Sticks have 500 calories each, only 10 more than the Cini-minis. The BK Ultimate Breakfast Platter, with scrambled eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage and a biscuit, packs a hefty 1,300 calories.

Desserts

Burger King's desserts come in at both the high end and low end of the calorie chart. The chain's frozen Coke products contain only 140 calories, while its chocolate and strawberry Oreo Sundae Shakes come close to 1,000 each. By contrast, its Hershey's Sundae Pie, with chocolate crust, chocolate chips and whipped cream, satisfies an ice-cream craving with 310 calories, and Burger King's value-sized vanilla milkshake has 290 calories. Among nonfrozen entries, the Dutch apple pie tops off at 230 calories.
