About Kanebo

Kanebo, also known as Kanebo International or Kanebo Cosmetics, is a Japanese cosmetics company that produces a wide variety of skincare, makeup, sunscreen and hair care products that are marketed throughout the world via sales channels in 49 countries. In January 2006, Kanebo became a member of the Kao Group, which offers benefits in supply chain management and product transport. The company's corporate slogan is "Feel Your Beauty."

Products

Product lines produced by Kanebo include Sensai, which is targeted primarily toward North American and European consumers, plus Aqua, Lunasol and Impress, marketed primarily toward Chinese women. Other Kanebo product lines include Dew Superior, Blanchir, Fair Crea, Raphaie, freeplus, Fréshel, Coffret D'Or, Kate, media, Allie, Sala and Tiffa lines. Product information is usually provided in Japanese or Chinese, and sometimes in a variety of European languages, including English.

Purchasing

You can buy Kanebo cosmetic products, like Sensai, through beauty counters or in-person sales locations. Products are usually available by mail order only from the U.S. and the U.K. Kanebo prefers to sell its products through personal consultation at a beauty counter.

Philosophy

Kanebo's corporate philosophy includes a commitment to sustained growth without excessively burdening or depleting the environment, sincere conduct and social responsibility, transparent and open management, and respect for the individual while cultivating a proactive spirit. Above all, the company's mission is "To enrich the lives of customers with beauty."

Production

Almost 90 percent of all Kanebo Cosmetics products are produced at the main production plant in Odawara, Japan, about 90km west of Tokyo. The Kanebo production system is ISO 9000 certified and ISO 14001 compliant. The company makes efforts to reduce, separate and recycle waste. According to company literature, no more than 1 percent of waste produced at Odawara ends up in a landfill.

Research

Kanebo has three research units in the main Odawara plant: Basic, Cosmetics and Product Science Research. The Kanebo research model is based on studying the relationship between human skin, emotions and mental states, with a focus on function, comfort and usability in its products. Additional research is done at sites in Paris, Shanghai and New York.

Branching Out

Kanebo produces more than just cosmetics; the business has already branched into, or plans to enter, the fields of supplements, toiletries, medical skin care and health care.
