Stretchmarks occur when the body grows too fast so the skin stretches, causing discoloration and demarcation. When the body expands too quickly, the collagen and elastin of your skin tear, causing stretchmarks. Pregnancy, obesity, muscle building, the use of steroids and hormonal changes contribute to rapid weight gain and stretchmarks. Dermatologists suggest using stretch mark creams that use key ingredients such as cocoa and shea butter, aloe vera, glycolic acid and a combination of peptides to help rebuild the skin.

Mederma

Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy is recommended by dermatologists to visibly reduce the appearance of stretch marks. The company claims that in four to 12 weeks the formula will reduce discoloration, improve texture and soften your skin. The active ingredients in Mederma are cepalin, hyaluronic acid, and centella asiatica, which improve the collagen of your skin. It is recommended that you apply Mederma three times a day to the affected areas.

Trilastin

Trilastin offers a high potentcy formula that dermatologists approve to lessen the appearance of stretch marks. The key ingredient in Trilastin is soy protein, which renews the skin and encourages cellular growth. The company claims that it restores skin's elasticity. The product is typically applied day and night to stretchmarks while the skin is still moist. Rub the cream in for about 30 seconds in a circular motion for best results.

Dermectin

The manufacturers behind Dermectin claim that scientific trials and dermatologists have approved their product as being able to reduce stretch marks. The active ingredients in the product are collagen, polysaccharides and a combination of peptides. These ingredients work together to exfoliate and repair the skin within two to eight weeks. To use the cream, rub it into the affected area in a circular motion two or three times daily.
