Ways to Fulfill My Life As a Single Woman in Her Forties

Finding fulfillment in your 40s may be easier than you think, says David Shenk, author of "The Genius in All of Us" in AARP Magazine. According to Shenk, life experience -- as much as your genetic makeup and education background -- determines your creative potential, and the older you get, the more experience you have to tap into. Finding way to fulfill your life as a single woman in your 40s may be as simple as making self-fulfillment your top priority.

Step 1

Think back to what inspired you during your childhood, and find a way to bring that passion back into your present-day life, recommends Pamela Mitchell, founder of the Reinvention Institute, in More Magazine. If you loved your toy kitchen, consider taking cooking classes; if your pet dog was your best friend, consider adopting a new animal friend.

Step 2

Make movement part of your everyday routine -- climb the stairs at work, stand up while you're on the phone or walk to lunch instead of taking your car. Exercise has the power to lift your spirits and make you happier, according to O, The Oprah Magazine.

Step 3

Reorganize your time so that you have more time for self-nurturing. Schedule a 30-minute "me-time" break for yourself every day, recommends writer Anne LaMott in Sunset Magazine. Skip your regular cleaning routine one day a week, turn off the television at night or postpone an errand to make time for yourself.

Step 4

Ask a good friend to be your better-life buddy, and encourage each other in your quest for fulfillment, recommends Mitchell, who says people with a support network are more likely to succeed in their goals than people who go it alone.

Step 5

Try something new, whether it's a painting class, training for a marathon or painting your living room your favorite color. Reaching beyond your usual boundaries can inspire you, according to Shenk.

Step 6

Volunteer for a cause you care about -- it's one of the most effective ways to remind yourself what a difference you can make, says Mitchell.
