Skateboarding remains a prominent alternative sport that is featured in a majority of extreme sporting events. Long-boarding refers to a discipline of skateboarding that functions as a leisure activity as well as a form of transportation. The long-board has distinct similarities with the skateboard, including a wooden board and four wheels.
History
The earliest models of skateboards consisted of homemade constructions that resembled the modern scooter. As opposed to being used for transportation and speed, you can utilize the skateboard to execute aerial maneuvers defined as tricks. The sport of skateboarding encompasses various riding terrains, including ramps and concrete swimming pools.
Size
Skateboards often have a length of around 30 inches. Wider skateboards, with a width of 8 inches or more, may have a length that is slightly longer. Long-boards dramatically fluctuate in size and can range from 3 to 6 feet in length. The width of the long-board commonly ranges from 8 to 12 inches. The size of the wheels remains a key difference between the long-board and skateboard. According to Skate Essentials, skateboarding wheels commonly have a diameter of around 50 mm. The long-board requires larger wheels that have a diameter of around 70 mm.
Types
A prominent type of long-boarding event is commonly referred to as slalom, which involves a paved downhill course that features various colored cones. The objective of the slalom event is to weave in and out of the cones while reaching the fastest momentum possible. Skateboarding includes various types of riding, such as street and ramp skating. Street skaters commonly perform maneuvers off handicap ramps and over fire hydrants. Ramp skaters utilize manmade ramps to execute vertical tricks.
Prevention/Solution
Even though improper skateboarding techniques may result in serious injury, many street skaters opt out of wearing protective safety gear. Bulky safety equipment can impede the movement of the skateboarder's legs and arms, which makes landing technical tricks more difficult. Long-boarders commonly utilize a hard plastic helmet and knee pads to protect themselves against falls that may occur during high-speed turns.
