Numerous books discuss diet and health, and a few go beyond the norm by offering suggestions on lifestyle choices relating to health and health issues. Eating a poor diet can cause health issues, according to author Ann Wigmore, who founded the Hippocrates Health Institute to teach people how to eat better. Books can teach dieters to prepare whole foods and raw foods easily at home.
The Hippocrates Diet and Health Program
"The Hippocrates Diet and Health Program" is written by Ann Wigmore, who has been a leader in health since her founding of the Hippocrates Health Institute. With a forward by actor Dennis Weaver, Wigmore's book provides information on dieting, food as a cause of disease as well as obesity, cleansing suggestions and recipes for raw foods, sprouts and wheat grass.
Conscious Eating
Gabriel Cousen's book, "Conscious Eating," was first published in 1992 and was updated in 2000. The book covers information on various types of diets as well as metabolic information, such as blood type, acid-based diets and the endocrine system. The author studied the diets of native people from around the world and compares their food habits to the overprocessed diet typical of most Americans. Vegetarian diet information is included, as well as 150 recipes and a two-week menu plan.
Raw Food/Real World
"Raw Food/Real World" is written by foodies and chefs Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngailis. Their restaurant serves only raw food, and the book offers their recipes and health suggestions for a diet that improves health as well as tastes good. Named one of the Ten Best New Chefs in 1994 by "Food and Wine Magazine," Kenney's passion for health drew him to a vegetarian diet and raw foods. The recipes are designed to be easy to follow for the home cook.
