Unkempt and out of control eyebrows can mar the face's natural beauty. Most women and many men desire to thin out and shape their eyebrows to make them a flattering part of the face. Eyebrow shaping can help bring out your eyes by making them appear larger and brighter. You can spend much money having them attended to at a salon or spa, but the simplest way to deal with unruly eyebrows is with a pair of tweezers at home. Learn the correct techniques for using this little tool to spruce up the hair over your eyes.
Step 1
Invest in a quality pair of stainless steel of tweezers with a slanted tip. You can locate these at your local beauty shop. Disinfect your tweezers with rubbing alcohol after each use. Store in a moisture-free, clean case.
Step 2
Prepare your eyebrows for tweezing by giving your face a steam bath. Set your shower on hot and allow your face to soak in the steam, or you can boil a pot of water and let your face enjoy its steam. This will make plucking your eyebrows easier and virtually pain-free. Be careful not to burn yourself.
Step 3
Brush your eyebrows in the direction in which the hair grows. Use a small brush designed for brows or a clean toothbrush to comb brow hairs in the direction of their growth.
Step 4
Mark the shape you want your eyebrows to take with an eyebrow pencil. Draw a traditional natural shape, or find an eyebrow-shaping stencil you like. These can be found online or in beauty shops.
Step 5
Hold a pencil up vertically beside your nostril. Your eyebrow should begin in the area beside the pencil. Tweeze any hair visible on the other side of the pencil, between nose and brow.
Step 6
Tweeze the hairs that lie outside your marked area. Isolate each hair prior to plucking. Seventeen magazine says to gently remove one hair at a time, plucking in the direction in which your eyebrow hairs grow. Alternate brows each time you remove a few hairs to keep your eyebrows balanced.
Step 7
Apply witch hazel to soothe your eyebrows following a session with your tweezers.
Tips and Warnings
- Properly maintain your eyebrow shape by periodically checking for and tweezing stray hairs. Use the brow bone to help you naturally shape your brows.
- Don't apply make-up until at least a half hour after tweezing. Be careful not to over-pluck, as it can take brows a considerable amount of time to grow back in.
