Weighted head gear for neck exercises are called head or neck harnesses. Neck harnesses are all pretty much the same. You can buy them made of nylon or leather. The harness rests on your head like a bike helmet, and a chain hangs from the two straps on the sides of your face. You attach a weighted exercise plate like those found on barbells to the chain and then sit or stand to do neck extensions. You should also do neck flexion and lateral flexion exercises for the neck with a machine or resistance band for a complete program.

MIR Neck Harness

The MIR neck harness is a one-size-fits-all harness. It features a 1200D reinforced nylon webbing and a heavy duty chain. Like all neck harnesses, it does not come with weights. Use the lightest weight available when you begin exercising your neck either with a harness or a weight machine, as advised by Jon Barron, the founder of the Baseline of Health Foundation. You can always use heavier weights with time. This harness and others are used for the neck extension exercise, which targets the splenius of the back of the neck. You will also use your upper traps and levator scapulae muscles of the upper back, the sternocleidomastoid muscle of the neck and the erector spinae muscles that run along the length of the spine during a neck extension.
