If you are an adult male and want to grow your chin hair you will need "patience, persistence and just enough testosterone to pull it off" according to Dr. Jeffrey Benabio, FAAD. Although there are no specific ways to specially grow chin hair faster than the rest of your facial hair, there are several steps you can take and lifestyle changes you can make that will enhance the rate that your facial hair grows.
Step 1
Resist the urge to shave your facial hair. According to Hudson's Guide and Dr. Benabio, shaving your facial hair will not make it grow any faster or any thicker. Furthermore, Dr. Benabio claims that your facial hair follicles all grow at a different rate and it best to let them grow out for at least four to six weeks.
Step 2
Take a multivitamin everyday. Nutritional deficiencies will impede your hair growth. A multivitamin will replace any vitamin or minerals that your solid food diet lacks. Even if you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, you can not always be certain of the vitamin content of all the foods you consume; a multivitamin will supply a regular and reliable supply of vitamins.
Step 3
Take a biotin supplement. Dr. Benabio suggests using 2.5 mg of biotin every day to support your facial-hair growing endeavors. Additionally, the University of Maryland Medical Center reports that biotin is essential for hair growth and a deficiency can cause hair loss.
Step 4
Eat lean protein everyday. Hair is actually made of keratin protein. Protein is essential for the growth and support of healthy hair. The Mayo Clinic provides guidelines for protein consumption. They state that 10 to 35 percent of your calories should be from protein. If you want to optimize your facial hair growth, you will want to aim for the higher protein on a daily basis.
Step 5
Stop smoking cigarettes. Smoking depresses your body's immune system. Nicotine constricts blood vessels and prevents your body from absorbing nutrients efficiently. This will hinder your facial hair growth. The University of Michigan and a study in the US Journal of Dermatology has linked smoking to premature hair thinning and hair loss.
Tips and Warnings
- Vanderbilt University notes that vegetarians are particularly susceptible to protein deficiencies. If you are a vegan or vegetarian and have an abnormally low rate of hair growth, please talk to your doctor.
- Do not try to grow chin hair with the hair loss treatment Minoxidil. Minoxidil is FDA-approved to grow scalp hair and could lead to a dangerously low drop in blood pressure if consumed accidentally.
