Archery can be an individual sport or it can be turned into a team effort where scores are combined. Archery combines hand and eye coordination and balance. Baltimore, Maryland, archery ranges are used by archery club members to practice and perfect their skills. Indoor Range

Archery is a sport that can be enjoyed all year if indoor archery ranges are available. Twelfth Precinct Archery has an indoor range that it uses for winter shooting and skill practice. Camps

Archery clubs use Baltimore archery ranges in the area to provide day camps, too. These camps are designed to teach youth about archery and techniques. Depending on the type of camp, participants may or may not need to own their own bow and arrows. Participants are also taught about the proper care and storage of their bow and arrows.

Skill Challenges

Archery ranges will set up target challenges to test the skill of archers using the range. These target challenges may be arranged by the archery range personnel or by an archery club that is using the range. Obstacle courses are one type of skill challenge that may be set up at an archery range. Archers are required to move through the course while shooting at various targets that are arranged at a variety of angles. The challenge is increased by timing the progress of the archer through the course.

Membership

Baltimore archery ranges don't generally charge a membership fee to archers directly. However, archers are required to be a member of an archery club to use the archery range facilities. It is the archery club that will charge the archer a membership fee. A portion of those fees are paid to the archery range to enable club members to use the archery range. Archery club members are given a card or something else that identifies them as a club member and must show it to the archery range attendant to gain access.

Archery Ranges

There are three outdoor archery ranges and one indoor range in the Baltimore, Maryland, area. The terrain of the outdoor ranges varies from a flat open field area at the Twelfth Precinct Archery to a wooded and natural terrain where the Baltimore Bowmen hold most of their archery events. This range is part of the Gunpowder State Park system, which is managed by the Maryland State Park system. Besides providing archers with straight shooting ranges to assist archers with setting the target sites on their bow, the Oriole archery range provides archers with an obstacle course that requires archers to shoot from a variety of angles. The course is rearranged on a regular basis to provide new challenges to archers.
