Mayo Clinic suggests nasal irrigation as a method of relieving congestion in the sinuses. To irrigate the nasal passages liquid is flushed through them using a specific device created to direct the fluid out. An Alkalol Nasal Cup is a device that has a specific mixture of liquids that are flushed through the nasal passages. According to Alkalol's website, the mixture does not contain any antihistamines or other drying agents.
Step 1
Combine equal parts Alkalol Nasal Wash with warm water. Pour the mixture into the Alkalol Nasal Cup via the round vent in the center of the cup. Cover the other vent with a thumb or finger to seal the nasal cup.
Step 2
Lean over a sink, bending at the waist. Tilt your head forward slightly.
Step 3
Put the spout of the nasal cup against the right nostril. Tip the cup up towards the face with your mouth open. Avoid breathing through the nose while pouring the solution into the nasal cavities.
Step 4
Flush the rest of the mixture out of the nostrils by gently blowing your nose on a tissue.
Step 5
Mix another batch of the solution and pour it into the Alkalol Nasal Cup. Repeat the steps but place the spout against the left nostril.
Tips and Warnings
- Clean the Alkalol Nasal Cup after each use to remove germs and bacteria. Place the cup upside down to dry so that all the moisture can evaporate. Perform the steps as often as needed. Saline may also be added to the mixture if desired.
