On television, radio programs and in print media, Dr. Mehmet Oz has garnered attention for his basic advice regarding nutrition, diet, fitness and health issues. While his advice to women, promoted often on Oprah Winfrey's television show, has great notoriety, Dr. Oz also offers abundant advice for men. Rather than follow a short-term or fad diet, men can integrate Dr. Oz's dietary and fitness recommendations to make long-term lifestyle changes.

Function

Dr. Oz advises men to slowly transition to a more calorie-restricted diet. His guide for men on how to improve their midsections warns that drastically cutting calories, such as 400 per day, will result in feelings of starvation. However, shaving 100 calories from your daily food intake, such as eliminating one carbohydrate from your breakfast, will not feel as challenging. From there, men can shave another 100 calories from their diets.

Features

Dr. Oz does not just dwell on what foods to avoid. He and Dr. Michael Roizen recommend that men eat certain foods every day or several times per week, including five handfuls of fruit and vegetables; 25 g of fiber, ideally from whole grain and plant-based sources; folate-rich leafy greens; cooked tomatoes; walnuts and hazelnuts; wild-caught coldwater fish; calcium-rich foods such as milk or fortified orange juice; a glass of red wine; and one or two cups of coffee.

Benefits

Dr. Oz's men's diet plans can help you lose weight, gain energy, reduce the risk of developing certain diseases and, when followers drink at least 64 oz. of water per day, encourage proper digestion and elimination.

Theories/Speculation

For men interested in Dr. Oz's plan for longevity, calorie restriction is key. Dr. Oz outlines a plan in which a man follows a long-term food plan centered around unprocessed, nutrient-dense foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains. His typical calorie intake totals only 1,950 calories, which keeps him at a lower-than-average weight. Dr. Oz opines that the body becomes more efficient on a calorie-restricted diet.

Considerations

Exercise forms a central part of Dr. Oz's diet, lifestyle and fitness plans for men. He advises starting each day with a series of sun salutations, which simultaneously raise the heart rate, promote flexibility, train you to do deep breathing and build strength.
