Liquid protein shake diets can be a convenient means of weight loss because they take the guesswork out of what and how much to eat. The plans are usually laid out in an easy to follow format and provide dieters with the opportunity to break their old eating habits. The protein shakes are also usually portion-controlled and provide users with many essential vitamins and minerals.

WonderSlim

In other parts of the world, most notably New Zealand and Australia, the plan is offered in pharmacies. The program was developed in 1974 and Everydiet.org reports that more than 1 million overweight people have used the program. Lifestyle education, personal support and portion control education are also provided with the program. The plan lasts 26 weeks, which includes at least 12 weeks of 100 percent meal replacement. After which, participants slowly transition to solid food. Physical activity is also encouraged.

Slim Fast

Slim Fast is a weight-loss program consisting of protein shakes and protein bars that entered the market more than 25 years ago. Slim Fast is owned by Unilever and operates under the name Optima. Everydiet.org reports that Slim Fast's success was hampered when users became unhappy with the large amounts of sugar in the protein drinks. The company switched to using the artificial sweetener Splenda to solve that problem. Slim Fast's plan entails having a shake for breakfast and lunch and then eating a sensible dinner made from healthful whole food. The shakes come ready to drink and each contains approximately 180 calories, 10 g of protein, 24 g of carbohydrates, 5 g of fat and 24 essential vitamins and minerals.
