Hotlines for Pregnancy Questions

Whether you're wondering if you might be pregnant, just found out that you are, or are trying to conceive, you may have a lot of questions. Getting proper care and education as soon as possible is critical to ensuring good health for both baby and mother. Whether you're looking for education, impartial counseling, advice or have questions about health hazards, there's guaranteed to be a hotline to answer your pregnancy questions.

American Pregnancy Helpline

The American Pregnancy Helpline no longer has its founding organization behind it, but its information-rich website geared specifically toward teens and young adults has been left in place. Calls to the former American Pregnancy Helpline are being fielded by the OptionLine, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the former APH number: (866) 942-6466. Note that this is different than the main OptionLine number.

National Abortion Federation

The National Abortion Federation hotline is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern time on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time on weekends. The hotline is free and completely anonymous; answers and information about pregnancy and abortion are provided in English, Spanish and French.The telephone number is (800) 772-9100.

Option Line

The Option Line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for questions relating to pregnancy. All of the services provided by Option Line, or at a pregnancy center recommended by Option Line, are confidential. Option Line is also available via text (send the word OPTIONLINE to 95495), via AOL Instant Messenger screen name AnswersatOL1 (during limited hours only), or via e-mail through their its website, www.pregnancycenters.org/contact.html. Option Line's toll-free number is (800) 395-HELP.

Organization of Teratology Information Specialists

The Organization of Teratology Information Specialists is a nonprofit formed by individual services throughout the country dedicated to providing clinical, evidence-based information about possible hazardous exposure or causes of abnormal physiology during pregnancy and lactation. It can be reached at (866) 626-6847.

Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood, (800) 230-PLAN, has a network of health centers throughout the nation, many of which host local pregnancy hotlines. Call Planned Parenthood, or visit its website at www.plannedparenthood.org/health-center/index.htm, to locate a Planned Parenthood center or hotline near you.

State Health Departments

Most state Health Departments have crisis pregnancy lines available. To locate the Health Department in your state, visit Pregnancy Insurance's website and locate your state.You'll be linked directly to the appropriate Health Department, or check your state's website..
