Some men can grow facial hair faster than other men. Hudson's Guide notes that genetics play a role in whether you are able to grow out your facial hair. According to dermatologist Jeffery Benabio, M.D., FAAD, growing facial hair requires lifestyle and dietary changes that you can make to eventually give you the facial hair that you desire.

Step 1

Ask your doctor to recommend a multivitamin. Malnutrition or vitamin and mineral deficiencies can significantly slow your facial hair growth. A multivitamin taken every day will supplement any nutrients that your diet may lack.

Step 2

Ask your doctor to recommend a biotin supplement. Biotin or vitamin B7 is recommend by Dr. Benabio. He suggests taking 2.5 mg every day. The University of Maryland Medical Center also claims that biotin is essential for supporting and nourishing hair.

Step 3

Make sure you are getting enough protein. Since hair is made from protein, you will absolutely need sufficient dietary protein to grow facial hair. MayoClinic.com recommends that at least 10 percent of your calories come from protein. More ideally, however, you could consume up to 35 percent of your calories from protein and still be within MayoClinic.com's guidelines.

Step 4

Apply and massage shampoo into your facial hair as it grows. No matter how slow the facial hair growth may be to start, stimulating hair follicles helps improve their growth rate. Dr. Benabio recommends using a dandruff shampoo two or three times a week on your facial hair. This will relieve any itching you are experiencing.

Step 5

Don't shave your facial hair for at least 4 weeks. One of the biggest misconceptions is that shaving will speed up your facial hair growth. Hudson's Guide and Dr. Benabio says that this is untrue and urge you to not shave for four to six weeks.
