A kayak refers to a type of sporting boat that has a lighter weight than a canoe. The sleek design of the kayak allows you to easily maneuver the boat without the help of a fellow paddler. Perception Kayaks produces lightweight boats. The RTM company remains another prominent manufacturer of kayaks and canoes.

History

Perception Kayaks has been around for more than 30 years and is responsible for introducing the lightweight plastic kayak onto the boating market. The plastic kayak revolutionized the sport as it allowed for better maneuverability and easy transportation. RTM Canoe & Kayak has its home base in France and remains a relatively new company to the boating market. RTM Canoe & Kayak began producing sporting boats in the early 2000s.

Function

The kayaks from Perception are commonly used for exercise, leisure and as a form of transportation. Kayaking remains an effective form of low-impact exercise that can burn calories and tone muscles. You can utilize the kayaks from Perception to cover long distances across large bodies of water such as oceans and seas. The canoes and kayaks from RTM are often used to navigate treacherous stretches of river that contain dangerous rapids. Various models of canoes and kayaks from RTM are specifically built for the sport of fishing.

Types

Perception produces three types of kayaks including recreational kayaks, sea kayaks and touring kayaks. According to Perception, the recreational kayaks are built for both adults and children to enjoy. The recreational kayaks are ideal for a calm body of water such as a lake. Along with producing touring and sea kayaks, RTM offers a hybrid model of kayak known as the Wave Ski. According to RTM, the Wave Ski models enable you to surf the waves in the ocean while remaining secured onto the top of your kayak.

Size

The recreational kayaks from Perception come in both a single and double seating capacity. Two person kayaks are defined as tandems. The single person Tribe model from Perception has a length of 9 feet. The Tribe model also comes in an 11 foot model which offers more speed. According to Perception, the tandem model of the Tribe kayak has a length of over 13 feet and can comfortably seat two adults and one small child or dog. RTM offers longer models of single person sea kayaks to allow for maximum speed. The Presto 4.75 sea kayak from RTM has a length of over 15 feet.

Features

The sit-on-top kayaks from Perception feature a seat that allows you to rest your legs on top of the boat. The covered models from Perception feature a cockpit that allows you to insert your legs into the middle of the kayak. The angler models of kayaks from RTM offer cords to allow you to strap down any of the fishing gear that you have on board, and they have built-in tackle boxes to store your bait or fishing lures.
