The Master Cleanse Diet was created in 1941 by Stanley Burroughs. The Master Cleanse may remove toxins from the body and can result in weight loss. The cleanse lasts 10 days and during that time you drink eight glasses of a special lemonade mix each day. The lemonade mix must be prepared fresh daily or the cleanse may not work, as the enzymes in the lemonade may become inactive.
Lemon Juice
Ten days worth of Master Cleanse mix requires 40 large lemons. However, only 20 lemons should be purchased at a time so the lemons do not spoil. It is preferable that the lemons are organic, as they will have lower amounts of pesticides and other toxins that may interfere with the Master Cleanse. It is important to use only fresh squeezed lemon juice and not bottled lemon juice as it lacks the nutrients and enzymes required for the Master Cleanse. Each serving of lemonade mix includes 2 tbsp. of lemon juice.
Cayenne Pepper
Ten days of Master Cleanse mix requires 2.5 oz. of powdered cayenne pepper. It is preferable that the cayenne pepper be organic to limit toxin ingestion. If you don't like the taste of a spicy lemonade, you can take the cayenne pepper in capsule form with plain lemon juice and water. Each serving of lemonade mix, or each capsule should contain a 1/10 tsp. of cayenne pepper.
Maple Syrup
Ten days worth of Master Cleanse mix requires 80 fluid oz., or two and half 32 oz. bottles of organic grade "B" maple syrup. It is very important that the maple syrup be grade "B," as it has more nutrients to sustain the user on the low calorie diet. Organic grade B maple syrup is not found in most regular grocery stores, but is easily found at a natural food store such as Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, or Fresh and Easy. Each serving of lemonade mix includes 2 tbsp. of maple syrup.
Purified Water
Five gallons of purified or spring water is required for 10 days of Master Cleanse mix. Tap water is not preferred because toxins may be present that interfere with the Master Cleanse. Each glass of lemonade mix should include 10 oz. of purified water. An additional 400 fluid oz. is required for the salt water flush and laxative tea.
Sea Salt
Ten days of Master Cleanse requires a 1/2 lb. of organic non-iodized sea salt. A salt flush is performed each morning before any consumption of lemonade mix.
Herbal Laxative
A box of herbal laxative tea is required for the Master Cleanse. Laxative tea is consumed in the evening after all lemonade mix for the day is finished. Laxative tea is used to prevent constipation and further flush out your system..
