In basketball, team shooting drills are most effective when there is constant, fluid motion by the whole team rather than spending most of the drill standing around. Team shooting drills also help players get used to shooting after catching a pass and following the shot, as well as getting used to shooting with distractions, such as noise and movement.
Team Shooting
Split the team into two lines, with one at the top of the key and one out on the wing. The first player in the wing line passes it to the first player at the top of the key, who takes a 3-point shot. The shooter then follows his shot and moves to the back of the passer line, and the passer moves to the back of the shooter line. Rotate through the line shooting 3s twice. Move to a shot-fake and pull-up jumper and then to a shot-fake and drive the lane. Move the passer and shooter lanes around different spots on the 3-point line to continue the drill.
Continuous Three-on-Three
Divide the team in two and indicate who is on which team by using practice jerseys or shirts/skins. Split into three lines underneath the basket, spread out along the half court line, with players from each team alternating in line. The first player in each line steps out to play defense, with the next player in each line on offense. The offense tries to score, and if it is successful, a new defensive team steps in. If the defense causes a turnover or gets a rebound, it moves to offense and a new defensive team steps in. The team that steps out moves to the back of the line at half court.
Wire Catch Shooting
Split the team into three, with a third of the players under the basket, a third at the free-throw line, and a third at mid-court. The team at the free-throw line starts with the ball, and the first player from mid-court starts running toward the basket. The free-throw line player passes the ball to the running player, who catches the ball at about the 3-point line. This player can either catch and shoot or shot-fake and pull up for a jumper. After the shot is taken, the player under the basket rebounds and passes to the free-throw line team. The shooter moves to the back of the rebound line, the passer moves to the shooting line, and the rebounder moves to the back of the passer line.
