In 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested 324 vitamins marketed for children and women. Most contained trace amounts of lead and other metals, levels considered safe by FDA standards. Only three children's vitamins tested did not contain any lead.

In response to a 2009 question on website Non-Toxic Kids regarding metals in children's vitamins, Nordic Naturals of Watsonville, Calif. explained that their Nordic Berries children's vitamins, which are manufactured and bottled in the U.S., have been tested for mercury and lead. They claim these tests confirmed that there is no lead in their children's multi-vitamins. These multivitamins also contain no corn, casein, soy, alcohol, MSG, gluten, dairy, niacin or sulfites.
