While it's normal to have some hair on your face and body, an excess amount can be disconcerting. If you're a women, the extra hair can make you feel self-conscious. Hair growth in excess is usually caused by hormone conditions. Thankfully, such conditions can be regulated with medications and treatments so that you can lessen hair growth and enjoy smoother skin.

Step 1

Make it a habit to eat healthy foods that are filled with vitamins and nutrients. Stock up on vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean protein sources such as fish to keep your body in good health and at a healthy weight. Maintaining a healthy weight can regulate hormone levels and limit the effects of diseases such as like polycystic ovary syndrome that contribute to excessive testosterone production and results in excess hair growth.

Step 2

Request that your dermatologist perform laser hair removal on areas of particular concern to you. According to WomensHealth.gov, laser hair removal can be used for excess hair on the face and discouraging it from growing back. It works by damaging the hair follicles, which slows down and even stops hair growth over time.

Step 3

Schedule a consult to discuss electrolysis. If you decide to go through with this procedure, it will involve the use of an electrified needle to give a slight shock to each of your hair follicles. In time, this will cause the follicle to cease functioning and prevent the growth of new hair.

Step 4

Treat hormone conditions with medications. If your hair growth is caused by an excess of testosterone in the body, consult with a doctor to get a prescription for a drug that will help to regulate it. Oral contraceptives and a drug called spironolactone are two effective treatments, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Things You'll Need

  • Fresh foods
