P90X stands for Power 90 Extreme, an amped-up version of Beachbody's original Power 90 90-day workout program. P90X challenges your body to keep up with an ever-rotating set of workouts. There are a few fitness accessories you must have to perform all the P90X exercises, and a few others that aren't strictly necessary, but can be helpful.

Pull-up Bar

The P90X program challenges you to work up to doing pull-ups, even if you don't think you're capable of doing them at first. Obviously, you need a pull-up bar to do pull-ups. If you don't want to install a screw-mount pull-up bar in one of your doorways, you can purchase a leverage-mount model instead.

Push-up Handles

You don't actually need push-up handles to do push-ups, but you might find them helpful. Since push-up handles allow you to keep your wrist straight, they alleviate one of the most common push-up complaints: Wrist pain. Some leverage-mount pull-up bars double as push-up handles when placed on the floor.

Elastic Resistance Bands or Dumbbells

You need either resistance bands or dumbbells to complete the P90X program. Resistance bands are lighter and cheaper than dumbbells. They also pack down small, making them more convenient if you're trying to work out on the run. If you want to use dumbbells but don't have the money or space for a full dumbbell set, consider purchasing adjustable dumbbells.

Plyo and Ab Mats

P90X also incorporates plyometrics, also known as plyos or jumping exercises. A plyometric mat provides a firm, shock-absorbing landing surface to help reduce the impact on your joints. This isn't strictly necessary, but if you struggle with doing plyos you might find that using a mat makes them more comfortable.

Yoga Mat and Blocks

The P90X program incorporates yoga to simultaneously calm your mind and build strength, balance and flexibility. A yoga mat helps cushion your joints against the floor and gives you a stable base for performing your stances. Yoga blocks -- lightweight blocks of foam -- will help you maneuver into the proper positions, especially if you're just starting out.
