Yeast overgrowth, also called candida, is a systemic infection that can be caused by over-use of antibiotics, hormone imbalances or poor diet. Candida feeds on sugar, so the only way to cleanse the body of yeast is to dramatically change your diet and starve the yeast parasite. It is common to feel ill the first few days of a yeast cleanse, because as the parasites die they release toxins, making your symptoms worse before they get better. Stick with the cleanse and you can rid yourself of yeast and heal your inner ecosystem.

Step 1

Eliminate all sugar from your diet. This includes refined and added sugars such as honey, maple syrup, or organic cane juice, as well as natural sugars found in fruits and dairy.

Step 2

Don't eat any yeast, which means no bread, baked goods or alcohol.

Step 3

Drink distilled water, herbal teas, or purified water with freshly squeezed organic lime or lemon juice. Do not drink any regular or diet sodas, coffee or caffeinated beverages.

Step 4

Eat organic or free-range and grass-fed meats and poultry to avoid hormones and antibiotics used in conventionally raised animals.

Step 5

Add fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut or kimchi to your diet. Fermented vegetables are a natural source of probiotics, the friendly bacteria in your intestines that help you digest food. During fermentation, any sugars in the vegetables turn into lactic acid which have a lower pH and help starve the yeast parasites.

Step 6

Make your own coconut kefir by fermenting the coconut water of young green coconuts. It can help stop sugar cravings, aids in digestion, and contains valuable minerals and nutrients.

Tips and Warnings

  • Eat whenever you feel hungry. Weight loss often occurs as a side effect of this diet because so many foods are restricted.
  • Eat until you're 80 percent full, leaving 20 percent of your stomach empty so there is room for the food, your stomach acid and enzymes to mix properly which will aid in digestion. Always consult your doctor before beginning any new eating program.
